A parent with physical custody of a child cannot simply relocate without going through the proper steps. A move-away petition must be filed with the courts. When reviewing the move-away petition, the courts will consider:
- The child’s age
- The child’s current relationship with each parent
- How the non-custodial parent’s access to the child will be impacted
- How the move will affect the child’s emotional stability and well-being
