When can I request a spousal support modification?

In some instances, a modification to spousal support or alimony may be granted. The modification can be requested by either the spouse paying it or the spouse receiving it and typical reasons for doing so include:

  • The spouse receiving support no longer needs it
  • The spouse paying support loses their job or is otherwise unable to afford payments
  • The spouse receiving support remarries or enters a new domestic partnership
  • The spouse receiving support is not making a good faith effort to become self-supporting
  • Child support has ended

When filing a spousal support modification, it is important to put your best case forward. The experienced family law attorneys at Kendall Gkikas & Mitchell, LLP can help with that.
