Physical custody is who has the right to have a child living with them. The parent that is caring for the child more than 50 percent of the time is considered to be the primary custodian of the child.
Legal custody is the right to make decisions for a child. This includes what school to enroll in and medical treatment decisions. Typically, parents share legal custody equally.
