If circumstances change, either parent can request a child support modification. Circumstances where child support modification may be considered, include:
- A parent loses their job
- A parent gets a new job or promotion
- A parent gets remarried or enters into a domestic partnership with a high-earning spouse
- The custody agreement is changed
- A child becomes emancipation
- Support needs to extend beyond 18 to care for a disabled adult child
If you file for a child support modification based on any of the situations above, the California Child Support Guideline Calculation will be redone based on the new information.
