Otherwise, read on to learn four tips for destressing during this tough time.

  1. Count to ten when you get overwhelmed
  2. Anytime you’re feeling truly overwhelmed, find a quiet place to sit down. We don’t recommend lying down because this can make you tired. Once you’re comfortable, taking slow, deep breaths. As you inhale, say “one inhale. When you breathe out, say “one exhale.” Do this until you get to ten. If you’re still overwhelmed, start again and get o ten again. This helps you focus your mind and shut off the thoughts that are stressing you out. Doing this once or twice a day can have a huge impact on stress levels.

  3. Take a walk
  4. Exercise is one of the best stress-busting options in the world. That said, many people going through a divorce are dealing with new custody arrangements, changes to their work habits, and other time-consuming and stressful things. As a result, you may think that you don’t have time for exercise. The good news is that just a fifteen-minute daily walk can help reduce your stress. Try to find a quiet, pleasant place to walk but be sure to watch out for traffic and other pedestrians no matter where you choose to go.

  5. Write down what’s really bothering you
  6. Taking a few minutes a day and writing down what’s bothering you can help you get it all out. Just write down the details of a particularly stressful encounter you had, or whatever made your day stressful. Don’t be afraid of making spelling or grammar mistakes. This journal is for your eye’s only and the only point is to help you get it out. It may not make you feel instantly better, but if you make it a daily habit then it could have a big impact.

  7. Work with an attorney you trust
  8. While there are steps you can take to reduce your stress during a divorce, it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that there are reasons you’re stressed out: You don’t know what’s going to happen. You don’t know where you’ll be in a year. Your entire life is about to change. One of the best ways you can reduce anxiety and stress around these unknowns is to make sure that you’re working with a divorce attorney who is going to fight for your rights.

You’ve found just such an attorney in Kendall Gkikas & Mitchell. Contact our offices today at 909-482-1422 to get your appointment scheduled. The sooner you speak to an attorney the sooner you’ll feel back in control again.
